Joshua Turns 12

Joshua turned twelve last week. I can hardly believe he is so grown up. On his birthday we went to Red Lobster for dinner because shrimp and crab are his favorite thinks to eat. He ordered off the Lobsterfest menu and tried lobster for the first time. He was not impressed with the lobster but loved the shrimp scampi and crab legs.

He had a party on Saturday. He and two of his friends ate Costco hotdogs and then went to John and Robbie’s house to play Halo in their theater. It was AWESOME! Thanks so much for sharing your home with us. Then we went home and had cake and ice cream. I really like Joshua’s friends.

He was ordained a Deacon on Sunday. Richard offered the most beautiful prayer. We are blessed to have him as the head of our family. Then we had lunch with the family. We LOVE having them over. We are proud of Joshua for making this decision and for being worthy to hold the priesthood.

Gargoyle Sarah in Hunchback

Sarah was in the production drama class presentation of The Hunchback of Notre Dame the last weekend in February. She and her classmate stole the show as the gargoyles. They were hilarious-especially when they were doing the improvised bickering. We loved it!

Sweetheart in Boise

Stacey called early in January and said she had a strange request. I am rarely surprised by any request by my family, so I was not too afraid. She said that Kaitlyn’s friends had bailed on her after she had asked her date to the Sweetheart dance and would we consider bringing Sarah and Ben to Boise so they could go with Kaitlyn and Lincoln. After some soul searching, Richard decided that it would be ok if we went. Scott and Nancy came too and Kaitlyn set her up with her friend Jeff. It was so cool that the girls could go together because they won’t often have the chance. They were also joined by Kaitlyn’s friend, Grace and her date, Ryan.

Finding the perfect dress turned out to be a fiasco! I guess it wasn’t finding the dress as much as altering it to fit. We had to take the dress back to the lady who did the alterations on Friday morning because she did a poor job on the alterations. Then, when we took it out of the bag in Boise, the beads started falling off. The woman had cut the knots that held the beads on and then did not retie them. My mom spent 6 hours on Saturday sewing beads back on the dress. (Thanks Mom!!) I am glad she is so patient. It did end up looking perfect.

On Saturday, the girls and their dates went black light miniature golfing and then ate lunch at Wendy’s. Then they came back to the house for a quick game of Simon Says before going to the park. Then it was time to get ready for the dance. It was so fun to help the girls and brought back memories of my high school dances. They all looked beautiful as you can see from the pictures! They had a progressive dinner where they chose the places to eat out of pictures in envelopes and went to the dance. Afterward, they ate molten brownies in mugs the girls decorated to commemorate the event.

We also were able to hear Rich and Natalie speak in church on Sunday and then, on Monday, Ben learned the Malm mantra “It never hurts to ask!’ when he bought a new trombone at a pawn shop. He is a good bargainer! We enjoyed having him with us-he charmed all the cousins and is so much fun.

We took tons of pictures. All of the kids had a great time together. I am so pleased to know such awesome friends!

Joshua’s First Court of Honor

Joshua had his first Court of Honor in February. He worked really hard at three Saturday merit badge clinics and earned his First Aid and Family Life. We were proud of him because he had to work for 3 months prior to the clinics get one of them completed.

Christmas 2010

We had a busy, but fun, Christmas season. Richard was off with Sarah and Joshua for the last two weeks of the year. I had lots of time off too, (Thanks Scott) We had a Saville family party on December 23rd at our house with Winger’s to eat and lots of fun, including the traditional 12 Dogs of Christmas. The 24th we spent at home as a family. We watched the First Presidency Christmas message and Despicable Me and ate our traditional fruit, cheese, and summer sausage. We love to be together. The 25th the Malms came to our house. We ate ham and roast and yummy side dishes and played games. My cousin, Daniel, came home from his mission on the 16th, and his report was on the 26th. He did a great job on his report. We sung As Sisters in Zion/We’ll Bring the World His Truth for the closing hymn. I love to sing with my family. We survived and had lots of fun together!!.

OOMPA LOOMPA

We got to go see Sarah in Highland’s production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in November. She was an Oompa Loompa. She did a great job and received lots of complements on her performance. Here is Sarah’s favorite pic. Amy took video too which I will have to add later because, of course, I don’t know how!

Halloween 2010

We had lots of fun this year. Our ward Trunk or Treat was Friday night. Sarah was out of town, but Joshua, Richard, and I went. Joshua had a friend-also named Joshua-who came with us. I was a biker babe (emphasis on babe) and Joshua was a pilot complete with a stealth bomber made from cardboard and 4 rolls of black duck tape. His friend was a wild-haired skeleton.and Richard went as himself. We had a dinner of chilidogs and homemade root beer. David, Amy, and their family came with us and joined in the fun.

Amy and I met Sarah’s bus to drive her home because she is not 16 and can’t drive alone at night. I was glad that we met her because on the way home her car chugged a few times then wouldn’t go. Sarah did a good job of letting the car coast around the corner to get off of Chubbuck road and out of traffic. Amy and I pushed the car into a parking lot and we went home. We had the fuel pump replaced Tuesday night and now Sarah has a functioning car again. I had to laugh as I remembered how I felt when my first car broke down and as I watched Sarah in her first experience.

Saturday night we all went to David and Amy’s ward’s (Grandma and Grandpa’s ward too) Trunk or Treat. Amy’s brother Ben came up to join us too. Sarah dressed as a Greek Goddess and Joshua still as a pilot. Richard and I decided to go as ourselves. We had dressed up everyday this week at work and I was ready to wear my own clothes and hairstyle. Then we played games at David and Amy’s until the wee hours of the morning. We learned a lot about each other playing Loaded Questions. We really enjoyed having Ben with us. He is a great uncle and a good friend. It didn’t hurt that he had muscles to help carry in groceries either.

Sunday was our Primary Program. Joshua did a fine job on his part and I was able to make it through playing all of the songs with no obvious mistakes! Sunday night we watched a movie at our house complete with popcorn and everything. It was a really fun Halloween weekend.

Sarah’s 1st Great Scot Concert

We went to Sarah’s concert last night. She did great as always. with her beautiful face full of life and excitement. They sung 2 songs as a whole group and 3 on their own. Her favorite was I Am His Child. I think it was mine too. I am so proud that Sarah uses her talents. She is also teaching herself to play piano. She can play several hymns , the beginning of My Immortal, and most of For Good.

She is a joy to have in our home. Love you Sarah!!

Greetings from Alaska!!

No sadly we didn't get to go to Alaska. But we did have a freak hail storm! It actually looked like snow! It went by really fast (it only lasted an hour) but several people had their window wells flooded. They let out church early the next day so that they could go home and clean up and help their neighbors. The water was high enough that it got all the way to our garage.
